Corians Pennington Caravan Resort.
The end of an era!

Ian and  I used to live up in Johannesburg, working 9-5 jobs, providing for our family. We were fortunate enough to send our kids to decent schools to get great educations. We were also fortunate enough to be able to go on hiking and camping holidays a few times a year. This is where our passion for Camping started. There were no such things as TV’s and Aircons. It was the basic necessities, which is what camping was all about. Time for Ian and I to relax, go to the beach from early in the morning till 14:00/15:00 and then head back to the park. The kids would then go play outside with other kids, not to be seen until dinner time.

20 years ago when things fell into place and the kids were out of school, Naturally we needed to decide what we were going to do for the rest of our lives and into “retirement” we were still relatively young so we decided to take our pensions and buy a caravan park of our own. Having been camping so much, we had seen some amazing parks and on the flip side, some terrible ones. We knew what we wanted in a park and therefore knew what to do to make our customers happy.

Corians Caravan Park was born… Ok not born, just taken over from previous owners and renamed. Nonetheless, fortunately for us, the park had some amazing regular Customers who decided to stay loyal and give us, the new owners a chance. I assume that we met your expectations because you kept coming back.

The nice thing about this venture of ours, was that our Customers soon became our friends. We got to spend 1, 2, sometimes multiple holidays during the year with you. We got to see your kids grow up. I mean in 20 years a child is born and turned into a young adult. We were able to spend some fantastic times together!!

In turn… 20 years also takes its toll. We are now Grandparents, our kids who finished school 20 years ago are now almost 40. Our grandchildren are growing up and we are only getting to see them a few times a year.

Unfortunately, things in our country have also changed a great deal. Everything is just so expensive, food, schooling, and then PETROL… To tow a caravan down to the coast is not cheap! In fact, just to drive down to the coast, is not cheap!! It is getting harder and harder for people to take holidays during the year. Everyone is feeling it. The last few years have as a result become increasingly more difficult for us to make ends meet in the Park. We didn’t buy a caravan park to get rich, we bought a caravan park because it was our passion and we were happy to work hard to be able to give you a wonderful holiday experience and to bring you back every year.

But at the same time we are not getting younger, but working harder. You would have noticed that the park is not as full as it used to be and at It is becoming tougher to survive. With our children and family, all living across the country and the world and with our Grandchildren all growing up away from us and with a park that is just not sustainable anymore, we had to sit down and make some tough decisions!!

Then unfortunately came 2020 and Covid 19, with our Government’s, total lockdown of 5 months, on the Tourism Industry, and with no income and no help for the Small Tourism Businesses, we unfortunately could not keep the Caravan Park going anymore.

So, it is with a sad heart that I need to inform you, that we unfortunately, are closing Corian’s Caravan Resort Down, for now, and are moving out in September!!

We got a buyer for the property, but he were not interested, at all, in buying the Caravan Park business from us. He only wanted the property. So we are keeping our 2 businesses, Corian’s Caravan Resort and Pennington Caravan Resort CC, and will make decisions in the future on whether to re-open again, just at another spot!!

It is time for us to move back up to JHB so that we can be close to our families and spend some time with our grandkids before they are out of school.

Ian and I would like to thank you for your loyal support over the years and for choosing to spend your relaxing time with us. We will definitely miss all the good times we’ve had together!!

We wish you all the best and hope that you find another Caravan Park that you will be as loyal to, as you have been to us.

So until we meet again, Stay Safe and Happy Camping!!
